Professional

Experience

My personal and professional life are interconnected. I cannot talk about one without the other, as my projects and goals are often both aligned for both business and pleasure. I originally designed the parent company Heroik Media, as growth engine for my personal and professional development while advancing the condition of others (creating value). I was 21 when I started Heroik. The subsequent business efforts & child companies were built to enable and reinforce my personal lifestyles and align to my personal and professional values; including my growth, knowledge, adventure, technology, innovation,  natural curiosity for many different industries, and exploration thereof. I’ve been lucky enough to meet, work with, and serve many of my heroes over the years, and have been

Radio

I’ve been on the radio a number of times, to talk nerdy about issues in the tech sector for multiple shows including Money 105.5FM and KFBK 1530.  Bruce Maiman was by far my favorite radio personality – sincerely nice and curious guy, who was great at translating geek chat, and keeping the conversation vibrant.

USAF Honorary Commander

It was my privilege to serve as a liaison for Beale Air Force Base. And yes that is a QC4 Global Hawk behind us.  As a civilian liaison, I have the opportunity to foster mutual understanding, support the mission, and build lasting relationships with those who serve. It’s an honor to stand alongside these leaders, gaining insight into their world and sharing their stories with the community.

Met a few people

I’ve been lucky enough to meet many famous and accomplished people (Buzz Aldrin, Clint Eastwood, Steve Wozniak come to mind), but it’s the meaningful conversations that shaped me that I find valuable. I met Tim Ferris at WordCamp (WordPress conference), about the same year the 4 Hour Work Week came out. It was fun to talk about growth hacking and WordPress tricks way back in the day.

Married Up

I married up October 2014. And living up to the role of husband, father, and family man to my lovely wife Bonnie and our two wonderful daughters, is the greatest adventure I’ve signed up for. The challenges, joys, aches, sleepless nights and adventures that come with family life – require everything I’ve got.

Mentored by Nan Wiik

My character is shaped by some amazing people. And at the top of that list, I was lucky enough to be taught and mentored by the late and great Nan Wiik, and got to tag along on several adventures and loved every minute of it.

Office Optional AllStars

In the early days of web 2.0, the rise of the web app, I was selected by Eric Ries Lean Startup Co. to chat about collaborative remote work, and at the time, a wonderful little app called Popplet. Getting to bump elbows with the titans of tech and better yet, make meaningful contributions to their journeys as well, was an awesome experience.

USAF Honorary Command Chief

As an Honorary Command Chief, This vantage point offers a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs our Airmen face, and the critical role they play in mission success. I gained a rare, behind-the-scenes perspective on the leadership, resilience, and dedication that drive our enlisted force.

Trails & Nonprofits

Worked with Placer Land Trust had many adventures, including this epic gorge scramble, during a time when we were developing various ruck programs and partnerships with nonprofits.

I love doing hard things with teams.

Tough Mudder - before it was nerfed.

I was made an honorary member of the USAF racing team by 1st Sgt. Dave Burges (far right), and was privileged to have him join the team for the first Tough Mudder in Squaw Valley in Tahoe. And on this dream team was the master of complex sales Joe Rohde, and the infamous desert rat Micah Remy (works on top secret drone stuff these days). It was a misadventure for many, as the cold and snow required the handing out of space blankets. This was the first year the Tough Mudder lived up to the name.

Changing the Game

People are capable of doing far more than they think possible,  and on our second Tough Mudder outing, we helped show a few people they too were Heroik and capable of doing the formidable work. The best part of this adventure was helping other people see that they could rise to the occasion and do some truly amazing things.

Warrior Week 54. RotK, Empire Syndicate

Endorsed by the Navy Seal Foundation, and created by Garret J. White, this was a series of programs that built a fraternity of men dedicated to expanding their lives as legendary business owners, husbands and fathers, who went to war with themselves on a quest for personal and professional improvement. IYKYK.

Many Adventures & Challenges

Rock Climbing / Team Heroik Adventure

I had as many cherished adventures in the hidden watering holes of my home town in Nevada City, as I did anywhere else in the world. There are so many magical places in the U.S.A. that only the locals know about.

Alaska - Go See It!

In terms of adventures, and things to write home about – go fly into Anchorage, AK, take a glass-top train into, hop a puddle jumper to wonder lake, and savor it.

Sailing - Old School

Island hopped music festivals in main with my family aboard the Isaac H. Evans, a schooner from the 1800’s where everyone works, and the only modern thing about it was the bathroom (thankfully).

Eppie's

Eppie’s is a sprint triathlon in Sacramento, CA with a kayak instead of a swim. It’s a unique event that I did twice, because sometimes it takes me a while before I learn my lesson.

What about work?

2007 – Present

Chief Experience Officer & Senior Strategist

Heroik Media

Leveraging the media model, lean practices to optimize business and build world-class brands

23 Years Consulting Experience With Businesses Large and Small, B2B & B2C Business Development For Complex, High-Tech Products & Services, and every kind of pixel work in between.

I find much to learn and many firehoses to drink from in just about every client engagement. It’s not that I don’t know anything (see my credentials), it’s that all that I’ve learned shows me how much I don’t know, and points me to methods of learning and applying what I do know.

I’ve worked with businesses large and small, from startups to the enterprise. I’ve lead, managed, and worked with others on countless projects. I help companies, leaders and teams get clarity on goals, objectives and challenges, create and implement transformation agendas,  and see these through from thought to profit. You can view Heroik’s client work [Here], but the internal programs and projects are equally important as a testament to my background, expertise and character – that are leveraged to serve those clients.
